BETWEEN || TUSSEN
My first solo show at Pulchri Studio
The moment is fast approaching: my very first solo exhibition at Pulchri Studio, a milestone I’ve been working toward and looking forward to for months! I sincerely hope to welcome you to the opening on October 3rd at 4:00 PM.
In this exhibition, I will be showing mostly new work from my ongoing series
Between. This series is characterized by layering and the use of textiles. The works play with interstitial spaces and the interplay between visible and hidden layers. Flowers and botanical elements form a recurring motif. They carry an instant symbolism within them – interwoven with historical and mystical meanings and an intuitive, personal fascination.
For this series of works, I drew inspiration from Symbolism, among others, with a particular focus on the work of Odilon Redon. In 1900-1901, this French painter created a series of groundbreaking panels featuring loose flowers and branches that appear to float in a vacuum without specific space or time. Redon on his work:
“My paintings cannot be defined. They place us in the realm of the indeterminate.”
Performance artist Anita Poolman will open the exhibition on October 3rd. She will pay special attention to a poem by Corina Engelbrecht, which is closely connected to the exhibition and its title.
I look forward to it and hope you can join me at the opening!
