New flower still commissioned by Flower Art Museum
At the end of August, I received a call from the Flower Art Museum with a wonderful proposal that immediately got me very excited. Over the past year, the museum has undergone a complete transformation. The building has been expanded with an additional wing and new facilities. A new permanent space has also been created: the FloraLab, focused on information, education, and inspiration. I have been invited to create a new floral still life for this FloraLab, as part of the kickoff project The Art of Observation.
The inspiration for my assignment is a beautiful flower painting by Rachel Ruysch, which serves as a starting point for the FloraLab project in which it is explored from different perspectives. For example, how does a plant scientist view it? And what does a grower or art historian see?
Invited as an artist, I found a connection with my own series Preserved, consisting of recreations of floral still lifes from various art periods.
The first copy of the edition of 7 of my new floral still life 'Wonderlijck Constig Bloemstuck Extra Fraay' will be purchased by the Flower Art Museum and will be included in the permanent collection.
On November 25, the Flower Art Museum will open to the public, and my still life will be on display in the FloraLab!
After the museum opens, my work will be available in my online webshop.
