Funky Flower!
This new floral still life references the 'glam & spectacle culture' of the late 20th-century funk scene — a “glitterfunk” aesthetic with elements of neo-pop art and postmodernism. The deep pink-purple, the bright yellow flower, and the shiny vase combine to create a visual dynamic that resonates with the flamboyant stage language of funk artists such as Rick James, Funkadelic, Bootsy, and Cameo.
Floral still life Funky Flower is part of Project Preserved. In this project, I create still lifes from various style periods in art and culture using used materials sourced from thrift stores.
Funky Flower will be on display at Pulchri Studio starting May 21 in the exhibition 'Klein Formaat'. Works in this exhibition measure a maximum of 30 x 30 cm, are surprisingly affordable, and can be taken home immediately after purchase. Ideal as a gift or for finding a beautiful spot in your own living or working environment the very same day. Funky Flower is also for sale in the Pulchri Studio webshop.
Feel free to stop by and take a look if you are in the area!
