Exhibition Morphogenesis - Pulchri Studio

With an exhibition themed 'Morphogenesis' the photography collective Nomads of Sehnsucht delve into the fascinating world of form generation. They draw inspiration from the magical process of morphogenesis, through which complex shapes and structures develop from a simple beginning. For the Nomads, it sparks a quest for hidden metaphorical meanings.

For this exhibition, the Nomads settle into a special location: the elegant Voorhout Gallery at Pulchri Studio on the Lange Voorhout in The Hague. As a collective, they embrace their nomadic nature, organizing exhibitions and events in diverse and changing locations, ensuring that their work is experienced and appreciated in various contexts.

Within my ongoing art series Between, I made new work for this exhibition. In Echoes of Eden, a diptych with organic forms that seem to float between reality and dream, the work of Odilon Redon with its Darwinian affinity is a silent guide.

Darwin wrote: “From so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.” This sense of connectedness is woven through the work - as something we know intuitively, something elementary and universal.

In the display cabinet of the Voorhoutgalerie I exhibit Wonderful Creatures, also a new work, which is formed from wooden frames covered with semi-transparent voile. This delicate fabric shows orchids – moving freely in space between visibility and concealment. The work draws on Darwin’s admiration: “They are wonderful creatures, these Orchids...”—not to explain, but to suggest the ungraspable.
