Exhibition 'The Hidden Source' encouraged me to explore the sources of our imagination and create new work.
For the realization in a visual expression, I looked at symbolism and image characteristics in historical art genres and spiritual movements. I found inspiration in Symbolism, one of the innovative art movements that emerged during the Fin de Siècle, with a particular focus on the work of Odilon Redon. In 1900-1901, this French painter made a series of groundbreaking panels with loose flowers and branches that seem to float in the air without specific space or time. Work that focuses on our magical inner world.
Redon about his work: "My paintings are indefinable. They place us, like music, in the ambiguous realm of the indefinite."
The unmistakable Japanese influences and the tranquil contemplative atmosphere in this work by Redon appeal to me. In my work I have tried to do justice to his work, which touches on our imagination, our dream images, our inner world and the symbolic function of flowers and colors.
My work 'Rêve Blue' symbolizes a dream world, the mysterious, the fragile, the source around which we flutter. The diptych consists of related images that flow into each other. The wooden frames, which consist of two layers, are covered with fabric printed with a photographic print of flowers, branches and leaves. The front frame is covered with a semi-transparent mesh fabric and the rear with opaque velor fabric.
